Report 1 from the IC Junior Challenge World-wide Finals

Greetings from Adelaide

The IC Junior Challenge World-wide Finals got off to a good start today.  All teams arrived on time if a bit jet lagged.  The average flying times from their local countries was around 30 hours !

Meanwhile here is a synopsis of the first days results:

Germany 5   India 1

Argentina 5  USA   1

South Africa 5 Australia 1

'After the first days play at The IC Junir Challenge World-wide finals three teams emerged as potentially the strongest with 5-1 wins. This was Germany, South Africa and Argentina and it will be interesting to see how things progress through the week.  It is a great experience for the juniors and most are playing on grass courts for the first time.

As well as our event there are a tremendous number of tennis events going on at the same venue here. This includes the WCT World Tennis Challenge in which a current and former ATP tour player match up in four teams.  So last night at a welcome cocktail party for this, to which we were invited, the juniors heard amusing anecdotes from the players who include the teams of John McEnroe and Tommy Haas, Michael Llodra and Henri Leconte, Pat Rafter and Alexander Dolgopolov plus Brad Gilbert and Stan Warwrinka.  Several junior cameras where in action posing with the stars! Tonight they will be going to watch them play.  There is also an ITF Wheelchair event and numerous local club player events so the juniors are seeing that there is a whole wide world of tennis outside of their normal junior circuit where people are having fun.

We are all looking forward to a great week of tennis with the IC maintaining our motto of "Hands across the net, friendship across the seas".
