September 2014 La Carreta 2014 The German IC staged La Carreta trophy from 5th-8thSeptember in Heidelberg and the hospitality was superb! Four IC teams took part- France Germany, Belgium and Great Britain. The event was played on a round-robin basis and despite GB losing to France on the first day, they won the event, which was only decided after the last ball of the weekend was hit. GB and France ended with the same number of wins but GB lost one fewer set and therefore were declared the winners of the 2014 La Carreta Trophy. The original La Carreta trophy resides permanently at The All England Club, partially because of its frailty and because it is too heavy to transport to the venue of each event. However, the organiser, Alex Kurucz , president of the IC of Germany, ensured that the team did not go away empty-handed and a one–off trophy was presented to the Captain of the GB team, Pauline Fisher and lovely miniature globe trophies were given to each of the winning team members. Social events included attendance at the 500 year celebration of the burning of Heidelberg castle (in 1793) which was celebrated with a firework display, which the team and supporters witnessed from the luxurious home of the President of Heidelberg Tennis Club. It was a wonderful weekend of tennis played in the true IC spirit during which many new friends were made. IC Council representative, Julian Tatum was made an honorary member of the IC of Germany.
