June 2013 Jean Brechbuhl celebrates 100 years of age. Jean Brechbuhl, the oldest member of the IC will celebrate his 100th birthday on June 18, 2013. He was elected member of the IC in 1977. He discovered tennis already at the age of 8 years.-For many years he joined his father’s centre of physical education. In order to avoid mobilisation during world war No. 2, he entered the University of Geneva in 1944 at the faculty of economics. He introduced sports at the University of Geneva. At that time he was the only person having a licence in giving lessons in sports. Two years later, the first University degree in Sports has been awarded. He headed the department during thirty-three years. He was also three times Swiss Champion. He stopped playing tennis at the age of 92 following a thighbone surgery. During his career he wrote 3 books covering teaching of tennis and introducing new methods. He was president of the Swiss Tennis Association of tennis teachers. In 1961 he was involved in the organisation of the tennis tournament at the Universiade in Sofia.
