IC of Japan expresses thanks

Many ICs from around the world have passed on messages of support and sympathy to the IC of Japan following the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The honorary secretary of the IC of Japan, Sakae Yoshii, has expressed his appreciation for all the gestures of participation as follows on the 30th March:

Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe that it's been 20 days since the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Thank you very much for keeping the tragic events of our nation in your thoughts and prayers during the past weeks. The death toll reached 10,000 recently and so many more are still missing in the affected area to the north of Tokyo. To top it all off, we are reminded of the problems surrounding the nuclear plants in Fukushima daily. The number of aftershocks has decreased in Tokyo and life in this capital city is trying to get back to some kind of normalcy. The supermarkets and convenience stores are beginning to be stocked with basic necessities and the lines of cars in front of gas stations have disappeared. However, street lights as well as lighting in office buildings and retail stores have been dimmed in order to conserve electricity in Tokyo - something that, we are told, will continue until the end of the year. The recovery process is expected to take years and those of us living in Tokyo will also live a life of adjustments for at least a year, but I am confident that Japan will survive this ordeal with the support from the rest of the world.

I will keep you posted from time to time on the recovery process.

Thank you again for thinking of us.

Best,

Sakae & Mimi Yoshii”
