Wallenberg Trophy 2013

IC Germany beats IC France in a very close final

IC Germany, first time participant in the Wallenberg Trophy, hosted teams from IC Sweden, GB and France in Essen at the Tennisclub ETUF, one of the „Leading Tennis Clubs of Germany“, from 15 to 17 September. The original format of this trophy is a round robin of 4 clubs with 4 singles (2 ladies, 25+ and 40+, and 2 men, 30+ and 45+) and 2 mixed doubles. Unfortunately, the schedule had to be changed because of rainfall on Saturday. The team captains decided to play 2 semi-finals, a final with the winners and a match with the losers for the 3rd place.

France, the winner of 2012, won all matches in the semi-final against Sweden. Much closer was the match between Germany and GB, in the end with a 4:2 victory for the Germans.

Without any doubt, the highlight of this year´s trophy was the final between France and Germany. While the German ladies won in 2 straight sets each, both French men succeeded over the Germans, however lost one set, what finally was crucial. Both mixed doubles were won in match-tiebreaks, one by France, the other by Germany. The final score was 3:3 with 8:7 sets in favour of Germany. And GB finally won against Sweden with 5:1

The quality of the matches was very high. All participants enjoyed the event. And above all friendship was cherished in a perfect way. All teams are already looking forward to the Wallenberg Trophy 2014.
