FRANK SEDGMAN celebrates 80th Birthday

410 guests attended a dinner in Melbourne, Australia on 25 October celebrating Frank Sedgman's 80th birthday. Frank won the Men's Singles at Wimbledon in 1952, defeating Jaroslav Drobny in the final 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 before joining the professional tour. One of his tour colleagues, Jack Kramer, was a surprise speaker at the dinner where, in addition, Ken Rosewall and Brian Tobin spoke.

The Council of International Clubs sent an original watercolour of Wimbledon to remind Frank of his sporting achievements at this venue and in recognition of his services to the International Clubs, where he has served as President of the Council of ICs for the last 12 years.

The picture was donated by the Council, the IC of Great Britain and various individuals from other ICs.''

Thankyou letter sent to Barry Weatherill, Chairman of IC Council by Frank Sedgman - President, dated 1 November 2007
Dear Barry,

It was a most pleasant surprise to receive your letter and an even bigger thrill to receive the painting of the Wimbledon Common by the artist John Whittall. The birthday party which was organised by the four clubs I am associated with here in Melbourne, The I.C Club, The Carbine Club, The Vingt Cinq Club and the Mornington Racing Club went off wonderfully well in front of over 400 people.

Jack Kramer who is severely restricted with a broken ankle was a surprise visitor and it was a tremendous effort on his part to be there and we had a great time talking about old times. He made a great speech as did Brian Tobin and Ken Rosewall and it is hard to imagine that the years have slipped by so quickly and it reminds you of all the people that you have met around the world over the years.

There was also some video links from Tim Phillips, John Newcombe, Mark Woodforde and Fred Stolle which I greatly appreciated.

There were some I.C. members from New Zealand there and we are looking forward to the World Junior Challenge in Auckland in February where I hope we can meet up with you.

Please pass on my thanks to the Council Members and the International Club of GB for their best wishes.

Yours sincerely
