Dutch Celebrate 80th Anniversary

Dutch Celebrate 80th Anniversary

The IC of The Netherlands was founded in 1931 and has just been celebrating its 80th birthday in style with an evening in a hotel in the centre of Holland. The Dutch IC has consistently been very active and over the years it has always been able to count all the Dutch stars among its members. At the party there were some 130 members and guests, the largest gathering ever, ranging in age from a venerable 87 (Boebi van Meegeren who played at Wimbledon in 1946) to a young 24 (Robin Haase one of todays top Dutch players).

With lots of pink champagne the celebration had touches of a Hollywood party and it even looks that Steven Spielberg (also known as Peter Scholtz) had been flown in as Master of Ceremony. Oscars in nine categories were awarded by prominent IC members Mark Koevermans, Martin Koek and Evert Schneider amongst others to Els Veentjer, winner of the Ladies with Balls Award, Michiel Schapers (The Slice) and Raemon Sluiter (Young Davis Cup Heroes). One of the stars was Nora Blom who recently won the world championships 60+.

During the party old tennis photos were projected on a screen and a CD called On Wimbledon Lawns with music made by famous tennis players was handed out.

The very successful evening was concluded with dancing. See some photos below. For more go to the Dutch website
